Perceptual attribution and perceptual reference

چکیده
Perceptual representations pick out individuals and attribute properties to them. This paper considers the role of perceptual attribution in determining or guiding reference objects. We consider three extant models relation between reference–all guides reference, no a privileged subset attributions reference–and argue that empirical evidence undermines all three. then defend flexible-attributives model, on which range attributives used guide shifts adaptively with context. model underscores remarkable dynamic intelligence our capacities. elucidate implications for boundary perception propositional thought.

Of Acoustic -‐ Perceptual Targets for Reference Vowels
The present paper proposes some hints to set up a number of prototypical vowels as acoustic-‐perceptual targets (APT). APTs are defined using theoretical considerations and the extensive use of an articulatory model for exploring the acoustic and perceptual space. This paper...
متن کاملA no-reference perceptual blur metric
In this paper, we present a no-reference blur metric for images and video. The blur metric is based on the analysis of the spread of the edges in an image. Its perceptual significance is validated through subjective experiments. The novel metric is near real-time, has low computational complexity and is shown to perform well over a range of image content. Potential applications include optimiza...
متن کاملPerceptual grouping induces non-retinotopic feature attribution in human vision
The human visual system computes features of moving objects with high precision despite the fact that these features can change or blend into each other in the retinotopic image. Very little is known about how the human brain accomplishes this complex feat. Using a Ternus-Pikler display, introduced by Gestalt psychologists about a century ago, we show that human observers can perceive features ...
متن کاملPerceptual learning beyond retinotopic reference frame.
Repetitive experience with the same visual stimulus and task can remarkably improve behavioral performance on the task. This well-known perceptual-learning phenomenon is usually specific to the trained retinal- or visual-field location, which is taken as an indication of plastic changes in retinotopic visual areas. In previous studies of perceptual learning, however, a change in stimulus locati...
متن کاملPerceptual coders and perceptual metrics
We examine perceptual metrics and use them to evaluate the quality of still image coders. We show that meansquared-error based metrics (such as PSNR) fail to predict image quality when one compares artifacts generated by di erent types of image coders (e.g., block-based, subband, and wavelet coders). We consider three di erent types of coders: JPEG, the Safranek-Johnston perceptual subband code...
